Non Government Organizations (NGOs) are nonprofit organizations that work for different social causes and issues. They can be local community NGOs, national NGOs in a particular country or international NGOs working across the nations. NGOs provide a platform for the disadvantaged people of society, particularly women and children. NGO for child rights works for the uplifting and improving the conditions of children who are being denied their basic rights like right to life, right to education, right to survival and right to protection. There are innumerable NGOs for child rights operating in the different parts of the world. One of these NGOs is Child Rights Working Group that is based in Vietnam, Asia. Vietnam was the first country in Asia that ratified the CRC - Convention of the Rights of the Child.
Child Rights Working Group (CRWG) is an organization working under the nation-wide socio-political organization in Vietnam known as the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO). It was established in June 2006 with an aim to strengthen government initiatives of promoting, consolidating the child rights and reducing the cases of child abuse. CRWG is network of local associations, international non-government organizations (INGO) and also the local representatives of other associations that work on issues related to child rights violations. CRWG brings together these stakeholders to share information related to child rights, ongoing programs, best practices, studies and researches related to child rights.
CRWG supports or implements projects for protecting children like orphans, street children, children with disabilities etc in the provinces of Vietnam, especially southern provinces. CRWG also takes up advocacy and awareness activities for creating awareness about child rights in the society.
CRWG believes that–
• All children deserve to be treated with compassion and humanity and should be respected. This is applicable to all children without any exception.
• All children have the right of protection from any abuse or harm whether it is emotional, sexual, physical or due to negligence. This is applicable to all children without any exception.
• CRWG has the responsibility of acting quickly in case they observe cases of child harm or abuse.
CRWG has been successful in strengthening the relationship between the INGO and the local Vietnamese stakeholders and provide a social support system to discuss and develop measures to deal with child right issues.
