The idea for Child Right Information System (CRIN) was developed in the year 1991. It started when the experts started questioning about the disseminating and storing the information created through reports provided by the Convention on the Rights of the Child. The experts were related to organizations like UNICEF New York, Save the Children in Sweden, and Defense for Children International (DCI). This NGO group which works for the Convention on the Rights of the Child is a combination of NGO’s and works together for implementing the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. CRIN was brought into effect in the year 1995.
CRIN is working globally to coordinate information and promoting the acts on child rights. More than 2000 member organizations and thousands of activists from the entire planet rely on the information and research of CRIN. This group is focused on programs concerning to sexual exploitation, violence and abuse relating to children. It coordinates the global action to fight against these activities. CRIN has a Liaison Unit that ropes other NGO’s in the reporting to the Committee on the Rights of the Child and also ensures the activities of the convention.
This NGO group has certain plans:
• To perform as an advocate on behalf of children
• To completely implement and promote the specific programs of the Convention.
• To provide information and co-operation regarding the implementations of the Convention.
• To create strategies and policies for the Child Rights.
• To participate in the work of the Committee on the Rights of the Child.
CRIN works for the rights and not charity for children which is guided by the UN Convention concerning to Rights of children. It offers events, reports, news, promotes knowledge sharing, coordination and enables advocacy. The Child Right Information System (CRIN) contributes with the child right coalitions and support campaigns which make the regional mechanisms and UN more accessible and will help in the social change.
