Right to Freedom

Every country that was ruled by some other country or dictator has fought for freedom and they have very prolific and eventful independence stories. People have fought and will continue to fight for freedom. Freedom to speak your mind, freedom to behave the way you want, freedom to do everything that your heart desires are the ultimate goals of every human being. We live in independent countries where we have all this freedom, at least to some extent. Freedom opens the doors to opportunities, growth and development.

But there is still an area where we don’t allow personal freedom to that extent; that is to kids. Parents are still apprehensive about allowing personal freedom to kids. The reason being kids are not mature enough or experienced enough to speak their minds. They are hardly ever involved in taking crucial decisions. If a child tries to give its opinion then the child is considered to unnecessarily smart or rude.

People fail to understand what type of freedom needs to be given to children. They should be given the freedom to think and express. Parents should look after them if they are crossing the line while putting across their opinions. If they do it you can always explain them what is right and what is not. Because of the lack of the correct type of freedom many children lack the ability to think innovatively, creatively and universally.

Children across the globe preserve the right to freedom of Opinion, Expression, Association and Religion.

• Liberty of Opinion means children can have opinions different from their parents’. Then it is up to adults whether to consider it. They should feel like they are intelligent enough to contribute something in any discussion.

• Liberty of Expression implies that every child can express its opinion. They should not be suppressed from expressing. They should feel like they are a part of a decision making process.

• Liberty of Association means a child can be associated with any cause or event, if it is willing to and even if the parents are not involved.

• Freedom of Religion means that a child is free to choose and follow any religion they want to. More than this it mainly implies that a child should not be forced to follow any religion or beliefs.

Only when children are granted such liberty will they turn out to be confident and influential human beings. Suppressing their thoughts and opinions would mean suppressing their future growth.
